What is Virtuix Omni?
It’s an omnidirectional treadmill simulator meant to offer virtual reality applications and games. It integrated state-of-the-art tech such as surface that minimized friction and special footwear to simulate walking motion at 360 degrees without the users hurting themselves.
Who Founded Virtuix Omni?
Jan Goetgeluk is the innovator and the founder of Virtuix Omni Company. He moved to the US in 2001 after attaining a mechanical engineering degree back is in his mother country Belgium, to pursue higher studies.
Jan intially worked as an investment banker after graduation, which allowed him to save for his future startup. In 2010, he joined a growing virtual reality community, where he first heard about Palmer Lucky and what they were developing at Oculus—virtual reality.
However, he couldn’t see how they would achieve the aforementioned scenario without creating an omnidirectional treadmill that would move in 360 degrees.
While still working in investment banking, he dedicated his off-hours to working on the Virtuix Omni prototype, which failed to work after a year of hard work.
Jan was a persistent man, and after a while, he achieved a working prototype. He needed the money to bring his idea to reality, and that’s when he turned to ABC’s reality show Shark Tank.
