Company Background

What is Spoonful of Comfort?

Spoonful of Comfort is a care package that you can send to a loved one to show that you are thinking about them or sending your best wishes.

It was initially created as a care package to send to your loved ones when they were sick. It has gradually transformed into offering more packages, including Pregnancy Care Package and Birthday Care Package.

Who Owns Spoonful of Comfort?

Marti Wymer is the founder and current CEO of Spoonful of Comfort. She was later joined by investor, Scott Gustafson.

Founder’s Story

Spoonful of Comfort was founded under unfortunate circumstances. Marti’s mother had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Marti had wanted to do something meaningful for her mother. She thought of making chicken soup, but because she lived in Florida and her mother was in Canada, it was impossible to send the chicken soup.

Sadly, Marti’s mum passed on without having tasted her soup. To ensure that no other family suffered her fate, she founded Spoonful of Comfort in honor of her late mother. A user would log onto their website and order a care package. The package included chicken soup, cookies, and a thoughtful note to a loved one.

With the help of Scott, Marti was able to care packages that clients would send to their loved ones. Marti noted that her motivation was ensuring that her clients’ bought gifts to give to their loved ones, and not motivated by profits. As a testament to the innovation, Spoonful of Comfort had a great rapport with the clientele. Even before appearing on Shark Tank, they had already made sales amounting to over $1,000,000.

Spoonful of Comfort Shark Tank Update

Did Spoonful of Comfort Get a Deal on Shark Tank?

On Shark Tank Season 8 Episode 1, Marti Wymer and Scott Gustafson entered the Tank seeking $400,000 for 10% but left the Tank without a deal.

Is Spoonful of Comfort Still in Business?

Following the episode, viewers were quick to jump on board with the Sharks’ criticisms.

Fortunately for Spoonful of Comfort, the Sharks underestimated the power of a spoonful of comfort during tough times.

Save for a few late or missing deliveries, Spoonful of Comfort has had overwhelmingly positive reviews from customers who praise its tasty food and quality packages.

The company continues to do well today, and has undoubtedly been a source of comfort for many during the pandemic. With physical distancing in effect, a Spoonful of Comfort may be just what we all need.

  1. Over the last couple of years, I have sent Spoonful of Comfort 6 or 7 times for anything from a sympathy gift to a thinking of you give. EVERY single time, the recipient raves about the quality and packaging. It an especially nice gift to send “after” everyone else has sent flowers and the recipient needs a little loving care.

  2. I found Spoonful of Comfort in the late spring of 2020 when I couldn’t find a florist to deliver flowers (due to Covid) for an employee who had a baby. The response was so delightful, I continued to order in lieu of flowers/plants for bereavements and get well wishes. Needless to say, it’s now my go-to for all gift deliveries in our offices. I was looking forward to ordering Spoonful of Comfort gift packages for family members for Christmas but am disappointed to see they are sold out of soup for the remainder of the holiday season! Great news for the company, though and am glad to see they are so successful. I didn’t know they were on Shark Tank and am cheering them on in future success!

  3. I sent my son and his fiancé who were in COVID-19 quarantine, a chicken and wild rice package. My son’s fiancé is a nurse and contracted covid from a patient. They live 900 miles away and I felt helpless to do anything for them. The Spoonful package cheered them up and they reported the whole package was excellent . They have thanked me 3 times for sending it, so thank you Spoonful for helping them feel better.
