What is Skinny Shirt?
Skinny Shirt’s signature product is the SkinnyShirt, a garment that has the collar and buttons of a conventional button-down shirt (or blouse), but is made from stretchy material. Fitting like a camisole under a sweater or jacket, SkinnyShirt gives the smart appearance of a button-down without the folds and bulges of material that a traditional button-down can create under a top layer.
Who Owns Skinny Shirt?
Julie Kalimian, the founder of SkinnyShirt, started her career in advertising and as a sales representative for Vanity Fair. Later, she went on to become an advertising manager at Conde Nast. Her final job before starting SkinnyShirt was working in the marketing for News Week, holding the Vice-President position in the department. At the present time, Julie is still the CEO of SkinnyShirt.
Julie was inspired to create the SkinnyShirt after taking time off from her career to raise four children. One of the things she missed about working was the opportunity to wear smart outfits.
With limited time available at home to get ready, she wanted the look of a button-down and sweater combo but in a format that was easy to wear and gave a smooth line.
Amazed that a stretchy garment with a button-down collar wasn’t already on the market, Kalimian designed her own, creating the signature garment that was sold by SkinnyShirt during the time that it was operational.
