What is Scrubbie?
The Scrubbie is an improvised scrubbing sponge that easily attaches to a kitchen sink sprayer, garden hoses, or even pull-down faucet. To use The Scrubbie, you stick it on a nozzle, add some soap, and then you can do your dishes. When you buy The Scrubbie, it comes with three extra sponges. The sponges can be used repeatedly, and once they wear out, you can buy a replacement from the company or Amazon.
Who Owns Scrubbie?
The Scrubbie was created by Jeff Dakin, Matt Hosey, and Tyler Kessler. The trio who call themselves the ‘Side Hustle Homies’ were established, professionals prior to creating the Scrubbie. Jeff was a local contractor, Matt an oil and gas contractor, and Kessler was a businessman. Currently, Matt is the President of The Scrubbie, while Jeff is the CEO.
Jeff Dakin is the actual founder of The Scrubbie. He got the motivation to make the product while doing his share of house chores. On one of his routine dish cleanings, he scraped off food using the sink’s spray gun and noted how easily it cleared the food.
He immediately called his friend Matt and informed him about his newfound invention. The two agreed to a meet-up where Tyler had tugged along with Matt. The trio immediately realized they had a winner on their hands. However, it took them five years and involving different professionals before finding a working prototype.
To ensure their invention was protected, ‘The Side Hustle Homies’ went ahead with patenting their product. Once they were ready to showcase The Scrubbie, they presented it at the 2019 Wichita Women’s Fair. The Scrubbie became a central attraction. In 2020, The Scrubbie team made another appearance at Wichita Women’s Fair, where they yet again drew much attention.
