What is Scrub Daddy?
Scrub Daddy is a company which manufactures cleaning tools and is best known for their smiley face sponge of the same name.
The Scrub Daddy sponge is made out of polymer, whereas most kitchen sponges are made from cellulose, polyester, and/or nylon, which allows the Scrub Daddy’s texture to change depending on water temperature.
In hot water the sponge becomes softer; in cold water the sponge becomes harder.
Along with the Scrub Daddy in a number of different colors and designs, the company also sells their Sponge Daddy, Scour Daddy, PowerPaste, and more.
Who Owns Scrub Daddy?
The company was founded by inventor and entrepreneur Aaron Krause. Aaron earned his B.S. in Psychology from the University of Syracuse in 1992.
That same year, he went on to found his first company, Dedication to Detail, Inc. He worked at this company for over sixteen years, before starting his second company, Ion TEch Wear.
One year later, he went on to found his third and most successful company to date, Scrub Daddy, where he’s operated as President and CEO since its beginnings in May 2012.
Scrub Daddy’s initial conception began when Aaron accidentally scratched his car while washing it. A longtime inventor, he went on to develop a range of scratch-free buffing and polishing pads.
The pads were successful, and were eventually purchased by multinational conglomerate M3. M3, however, did not purchase the sponges that had also been created as part of the line—only the pads.
Left with the inventory, Aaron used the sponges for household cleaning; it was then that he realized the stroke of luck he’d just had.
This sponge design is what later became the widely sold and easily recognized Scrub Daddy of today.
