What is Safety Nailer?
Safety Nailer is a company which produces their famous and eponymous product, the Safety Nailer. The product is worn over the thumb and pointer finger and used to protect users’ fingers from common impact injuries while woodworking, home fixing, or just otherwise using a nail and hammer. The component additionally also provides three different sized guides for nails to be inserted into in order to ensure nails are hammered in correctly and safely.
Who Owns Safety Nailer?
The company was founded by engineer Drew Zirkle and accountant Kristen Eifes. Prior to his role as president of Safety Nailer, Drew earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Old Dominion University and subsequently worked as a Water and Wastewater Project Manager for design firm HRD for over fourteen years. Kristen, who serves as Safety Nailer’s owner, earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Administration and Management from Old Dominion University and her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from the University of Phoenix.
Dan Eifes, civil engineer and husband of Kristen Eifes, is the person who initially came up with the idea for the company’s star product. He was working as a civil engineer for the U.S. Navy when he had what he would later describe as an “Ah-ha!” moment.
During a safety related work presentation, Dan and his coworkers were introduced to a chisel featuring a safety grip. He thought to himself that although a safety chisel is surely handy, people are more commonly hurt from accidental hammer strikes, and wondered why there wasn’t a similar safety product for nails.
This led to him talking about the idea with his friend Drew, and the two and Dan’s wife eventually brought the idea to fruition.

Is Safety Nailer Still in Business?
As of today, Safety Nailer is still in business. They currently have two product models, the Framing Nailer and the Finish Nailer, and have since broadened their line to include their Pencil Holder & Sharper, Newton Spindle, and ModernTray.
The Pencil Holder & Sharper allows for one-handed sharpening and clips onto clothing to prevent losing either the pencil or the sharpener; the Newton Spindle is a patent-pending magnetic toy; and the ModernTray is a sink tray designed to hold dish sponges and soap while draining water, thus preventing mildew.
The company’s products are available for online purchase through their website, safetynailer.com, as well as on Amazon.
