Company Background

What is Proven AI?

Proven AI is a skincare line that uses Artificial Intelligence to make customized skincare products. It is the first company to mix personalization, big data and AI in skincare in the beauty industry. PROVEN obtains data through an easy quiz that takes 3 minutes to complete. The company uses over 45 factors to generate a person’s profile which include geography, lifestyle, skincare goals and genetics among other things

Who Owns Proven AI?

The company’s two founders are Dr. Amy Yuan, a computation physicist and data scientist from Stanford University, and Ming S. Zhao. Ming Zhao is the company’s CEO and their company is a Y Combinator alumnus; the famous startup accelerator. Zhao moved to the U.S when she was 12 years old and holds an MBA from Harvard University. She worked in Bain Capital and then quit to start PROVEN with her business partner. The founders are currently running the company. They are selling a daily SPF, night cream and cleanser.

Founder’s Story

Zhao hatched the idea of starting the company when she realized that her busy career life was causing stress on her skin. She was constantly being told that her skin was ‘difficult’ and she was always looking for better skincare products. Searching for skincare products was proving to be costly, frustrating and time-consuming. She used Amy’s scientific expertise to make an effective, holistic and simple method of making skincare that is based on data.

Together, they made The Skin Genome Project which is the biggest database in the world that capitalizes on the power of AI to make personalized skincare recommendations grounded on an analysis of more than 4000 skin-related scientific papers and 20 million consumer testimonials. Zhao and Amy collaborated with the director of dermatologic surgery at the University of Texas, Tyler Hollming, to increase their understanding of skincare.
