Potato Parcel is the ‘spud’tacularly viral service that lets you send a potato with a personalized message on it to anyone, anonymously or not.

It’s the perfect way to add a ‘hash’ of humor (and a little confusion) into the lives of your friends, family, lovers, haters, coworkers, bosses, or even your secret crush.

A TOTALLY ‘TUBER’LAR SUCCESS

The idea for Potato Parcel sprouted from a viral Reddit post featuring a stamp covered potato which had been mailed to someone.

It was then that co-founder Alex Craig decided to monetize the idea, but allowing people to send potatoes with fully customized and anonymous messages.

Without skipping a frite, Alex got to work on his website which he built using Shopify.

Within a day of launching, the site had its first sale and within 2 days had over $2,000 in orders!

Potato Parcel was later sold to co-founder, Riad Bekhit in October 2015.

Riad had first started off helping Alex fulfill orders before purchasing the business for $42,000. But Alex would remain on board to help get Potato Parcel onto the Shark Tank.

SHARK TANK

By the time Potato Parcel aired on Shark Tank, they had already sold over 12,000 potatoes and in just over a year, had reached over $200,000 in sales.

Mark calls it “stupid on a stick”. Alex immediately lets Mark know it actually “stupid on a potato”. Lori says “taking this seriously as far as a shark investing is crazy” before she goes out. After hearing the business’ monthly sales, Kevin becomes interested and puts an offer on the table. Robert also makes an offer but they decide to make a deal with Kevin.

LIFE AFTER SHARK TANK

Potato Parcel made headlines in early 2017 after dozens of NBA players were anonymously sent potatoes. The joke further contributed to the company’s already viral success and helped to drive even more sales.

3 years and thousands of sales later, business is still booming for Potato Parcel. According to Riad, they’ve sold over 70,000 potatoes since the show aired, earning over $700,000 in sales.

POTATO PARCEL REVIEWS

There have been a some complaints about the quality of the potatoes or unreceived packages. Despite this, Potato Parcel continues to receive thousands of positive reviews from customers who love a conveniently simple and funny way to put a smile on someone’s face.

Potato Parcel has undoubtedly seem its fair share of taters but its fair to say that these ‘fries’ will be ‘chipping’ around for a while.

Most importantly, these potato heads have proven that with any idea, you can get a Shark on board and most importantly, be very successful.
