Company Background

What is Paleo Diet Foods?

The Paleo Diet Food Bar is inspired by the paleo diet (aka caveman diet), which cuts out all processed foods and only focuses on: Meat, eggs, vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, and berries. The Paleo Diet Bar has nine amino acids and 17 grams of protein from egg whites.

It’s free of gluten, dairy, and soy and an easy and convenient solution for on-the-go people or those who want to adhere to this diet’s principles in a snack form.

Who Owns Paleo Diet Foods?

Shauna Sledge and her husband Todd Sledge are the co-founders of Paleo Food Diets LLC, which they started in 2012.

Before starting the company, Shauna was a part-time fitness instructor in spinning and a qualified dental hygienist who’d also started a nutrition bar company, Braaap.

Today, Shauna has continued along the same career path, working at the same dentist practice in Colorado for close to 25 years. She has since founded a new side-gig company, Corejuv, that manufactures gels and lotions. Todd, a realtor prior, has also continued with his original career in real estate.

Founder’s Story

Shauna had always been a fitness enthusiast, so it naturally transitioned into a part-time career choice for her. But, as most regular gym goers will know, 80% of the results are achieved outside the gym in the kitchen. Shauna began to show a keen interest in the Paleo diet after a random meeting in the dentist chair with Loren Cordain, an American scientist who founded the diet. With her being a busy mom of three, free time was always minimal, so the idea for an easy-to-eat Paleo diet bar started to make sense. She got in touch with Dr. Cordain, and he gave his blessing, even investing 5% into the company to help get it started. Once manufacturing was complete, she got busy selling when possible between her jobs. As mentioned above, Shauna treated it as a side gig and sold her diet bars to clients at the gym or health food stores in Colorado and online. Over time though, she managed to get it into an impressive 135 stores, generating about $135,000 in sales in two years. However, to scale, she needed an investor with a greater market reach.

Is The Paleo Diet Still in Business?

The company is now out of business. Despite some brief success, production ceased around 2016.

It seemed a lack of investment meant the couple couldn’t invest more into research and development. The lack of investor capital, in conjunction with a fall in sales, meant the couple wasn’t willing to pump further personal funds into it and discontinued the product.
