What is Milk and Brookies?
Milk and Brookies is a unique take on a brownie-cookie food mashup, comparable to the cronut, baked into a muffin cup. Offered in six flavors, OG, Blondie, Turtle, Peanut Butter, Snickerdoodle, and Sugar, the Los Angeles-based business took off in popularity right away.
Who Owns Milk and Brookies?
Owners and partners Jovon English, Marques Brooks, Naimah Harris, and Tisa Smart-Washington were friends before coming to Milk and Brookies.
Jovon had a private banking background before getting involved with a non-profit organization to support incarcerated homeless and mentally ill individuals; Naimah worked in healthcare, while Marques was in property management.
Tisa was a deputy tax commissioner in Georgia. Interestingly, none of them were full-time on Milk and Brookies to start.
Today, Jovon maintains her day job in the non-profit industry while running the Milk and Brookies business at night; Marques is the vice president of business development at a staffing agency on top of his Milk and Brookies business; and Tisa was elected as the tax commissioner where she remains today.
The business started as indecision between a brownie and a cookie: Jovon wanted both but didn’t know how to satisfy that craving in a portion-controlled way.
Additionally, the bills were piling up between her and her sister who lived together at the time and thought if even one bill could be paid by the idea that it would be worthwhile.
The close friends and relatives saw an opportunity and partnered together, applying for the Shark Tank casting call and getting a callback.
