Kane & Couture is a business offering fashionable dog apparel and accessories. These range from clothing, carriers, collars, and more. They even offer a doggie poopie bag holder in gray denim and shiny studs. Their styles range from chic, sporty, and glam. Based in New York City, New York, Kane & Couture offers fashionable, functional, and affordable canine accessories to pet parents who love to pamper their pooches.

Founder’s Story

Amber Lee Forrester, the founder of Kane & Couture, wanted to provide a range of fashion choices for New York City dogs and elsewhere. She launched Kane & Couture in 2009, where it grew in popularity through pet industry tradeshows, such as New York Pet Fashion Week, Global Pet Expos, SuperZoo, and others.

In 2010, Kane & Couture became one of five dog apparel companies featured by Henri Bendel’s “Dog Days of Summer,” a doggie trunk show lasting one week. Within a year, Kane & Couture expanded to over 80 retail stores in North America and South America.

The company hit another milestone in 2013 where it was chosen as one of 22 companies to attended the WORKSHOP at Macy’s, a comprehensive vendor development program. This program educates and mentors women business owners and individuals of multi-cultural backgrounds to help them sustain growth in the retail industry.

Pitching to Shark Tank was another milestone that later brought on a new challenge. She asked for $150,000 in return for a 33% equity stake. While she received what she asked for from Daymond John and Lori Greiner, they weren’t sure how to operate in an industry they had no experience in. One issue was that Lori was planning to use her QVC connection, only to find out that QVC no longer did pet product features. During that time, the Kane & Couture lines grew and sold through over 100 retail outlets.

Where Is Kane & Couture Now?

In 2014, Kane & Couture sought funding from the crowdfunding site Indiegogo. Her goal of raising $25,000 on Indiegogo didn’t come to fruition as they only raise $1,515 with the help of 19 backers. The Imperial Pup line was created to provide style at affordable prices, and the Urban Hound line offered customers a more rugged and sporty look.

Three years after Shark Tank, Kane & Couture took the summer to find partners, affiliates, vendors, and strategic partnerships. In early 2017, they launched a new website. However, Kane & Couture went out of business in January of 2019.

Even though Kane & Couture is officially no more, Amber Lee Forrester made the transition from selling pet apparel and accessories to turning to the career of coaching, wellness, and motivational speaking. After attending a wellness retreat in Grenada and feeling satisfied with her work there, she started a new company called Quartz Wellness Collective and went on to earn a certificate in applied positive psychology. Both products Quartz Wellness Collective and the limited stock from Kane & Couture are available at the Kane & Couture Website.
