Company Background

What is Jackson’s Honest?

Jackson’s Honest is a chip company known for their healthier alternatives to typical market mainstays. They currently offers three flavors, Sweet Potato Chips, Purple Heirloom Potato Chips, and Japanese Heirloom Sweet Potato Chips, all of which are made in a gluten- and nut-free facility.

Aside from choosing more nutritious potato varieties, the company’s chips are cooked at a low heat for a longer period of time in order to maintain the molecular integrity of the coconut oil.

This not only produces a chip that is more true-to-taste, it also helps to prevent potentially harmful oxidative damage.

Who Owns Jackson’s Honest?

Jackson’s Honest was co-founded by Megan and Scott Reamer. Megan earned her B.A. in English Language and Literature from Lafayette College then went on to work as a Copy Editor for Dow Jones for two years and a Business Developer for Accenture for six years.

Scott earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering also from Lafayette College then went on to hold several high profile investment banking jobs.

Currently, along with his continuing involvement with Jackson’s Honest, Scott has founded a second company called Chora Capital where he operates as the Chief Information Officer.

Founder’s Story

The idea for Megan and Scott’s joint company grew out of the dietary results they were able to achieve at home. Their son, Jackson, was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease; and in an attempt to ease his symptoms, they began exploring different diet and food choices.

They tried a number of different options and nothing seemed to work, until they began to follow a strictly anti-inflammatory, low carb, high fat diet.

After a period of experimentation, they were even able to make their favorite snack food, chips, in a way that was compatible with their health needs.

Upon creating these chips, they felt compelled to share them and thus formally founded their company in order to do so.

Is Jackson’s Honest Still in Business?

As of today, the company remains in business. Jackson’s Health chips are currently available online at jacksonshonest.com and Amazon.com, as well as in-store at many Whole Foods, Thrive Market, and Natural Grocers stores.

The company also has partnerships with numerous local natural food retailers. Chip companies claiming to be healthy and/or natural have become ever more popular as the market continues to shift in a greener direction; however, much of these companies’ marketing is centered around buzzwords and clever branding rather than on quality and cooking technique.

Jackson’s Health prioritizes their products’ quality and healthfulness above all, which ultimately allows them to remain competitive in a rather high saturation market.
