HONEYFUND BEFORE SHARK TANK

Honeyfund was founded back in 2006 by then newlyweds, Sara and Josh Margulis.

The couple had tried searching through dozens of honey registry services and found nothing but high fees and expensive travel bookings.

They eventually decided to build their own honeymoon registry – a simple web page that allowed guest to select the gift they chose to fund.

The registry was a success! The Margulis’ were able to raise over $5000 and experience the honeymoon travel trip they never thought they could afford.

With the success of their crowdfunded honeymoon, the Margulis’ realized the potential to turn a dream into a business and from there they went on to build Honeyfund – the free honeymoon registry and #1 cash wedding registry.

HONEYFUND ON SHARK TANK

Honeyfund entered the Shark Tank as a well established business having made over $217,000 in their previous year of operation.

At the time of airing, they had already processed over $67 million in transactions and made almost $1 million in income through their Paypal partnership.

In spite of their impressive numbers, the Sharks had problems swallowing the business and its high valuation.

Mark Cuban thought the business wasn’t scalable, nor suitable for investment so he went out.

Lori Greiner, although interested in the business, wasn’t interested in the crowdfunding market and she went out.

Their first offer came from Robert Herjavec at $500,000 for 50%, quickly followed by Kevin O’Leary with an offer of $400,000 for no equity but until his investment was returned three times over.

Barbara Corcoran was quick to criticize Kevin’s offer as well but eventually made the couple an offer of $400,000 for 30%

Robert continued to plead his case before making another offer of $400,000for 30% to match Barbara’s.

Josh countered Robert’s offer at $400,000 for 25% but Robert wasn’t wouldn’t budge.

Josh and Sara deliberated for a while before finally deciding the go with Mr.Wonderful, Kevin O’Leary.

HONEYFUND AFTER SHARK TANK

Business has gone increasingly well for Honeyfund since appearing on Shark Tank.

Their user base has increased to over 45% with earnings of over $2 million in annual revenues.

More recently, Honeyfund has joined with Target in a partnership where couples can register anything from physical to cash gifts using the Target wedding registry.
