What is Fling Golf?
Fling Golf is a relatively new invention marketed as a new way for sports enthusiasts to enjoy their time at a golf course.
Fling Golf players use the Fling Stick to essentially hurl the ball across the course to get nearer to the target hole.
Who Owns Fling Golf?
Before focusing his attention solely on the development of Fling Golf, founder and CEO Alex Van Alen was the CEO of the Essex County Trail Association. The association was responsible for bringing back sled dog racing to Massachusett, and also advocated for mountain biking, kayaking, running, and horseback riding events that are still popular within the local community.
When Van Allen was young, he, his brothers and close friends enjoyed combining various sporting activities. They would sometimes play frisbee while riding bikes, football on skates, and more importantly, golf using lacrosse sticks. The latter idea gradually became somewhat of a lifetime obsession to Van Allen, which made him fancy the thought of creating a stick that would allow him to hurl up to 200 balls with accuracy.
Although he successfully developed the stick, he was skeptical that no golf course would allow the sport on their premises. He initially shared his idea with Walt Lankau, a board member at the National Golf Course Owners Associations.
Walt loved the concept of Fling Golf and even suggested that it would be a great way to counter the dwindling popularity of golf courses experienced in the 20th century.
Van Allen’s invention was then showcased at the NGCOA Annual Conference in 2014, and the response was outstanding.
