Company Background

What is Doc Spartan?

Doc Spartan makes and sells male, female, and animal hygiene products. Their menu consists of:

  • Underarm deodorants
  • Various scented and unscented soaps and scrubs
  • Beard care oils, butter, and soaps
  • Skincare products
  • Pet care products for your furry friend
  • Branded Doc Spartan t-shirts.

All locally sourced and made through natural products.

Founder’s Story

The idea for the business initially started with the desire to make natural products with healing qualities. And to only give these products to their family, friends, and clients.

It then grew as a direct result of the opioid addiction crises in Portsmouth, both Dale and Renee’s hometown. While working with people in recovery, they realized that addiction is just one step on the way to full recovery. Employment and a steady income were the next steps. And so they decided to expand their product production and hire on more staff. One of their first employees was a young man who’d overcome addiction but faced an uncertain future.

They’re proud to say that two years on, he now owns a car, an apartment, and now faces a bright future. The business continues to grow and provide employment in Portsmouth. All this came from applying an ethic of hard work within their team, which Dale attributes to principles he learned during his military service.

Doc Spartan Shark Tank Update

Did Doc Spartan Get a Deal on Shark Tank?

In Season 8 Episode 16 of Shark Tank, Dale King and Renee Wallace received an offer of $75,000 for 25% of their company, Doc Spartan, from Robert Herjavec.

Is Doc Spartan Still in Business?

Since their appearance on Shark Tank the company has grown significantly and now has 30 different products in a complete skincare and grooming line.

At the time of their appearance, they had done $56,000 sales and in their Shark Tank Season 12 update (2021), revealed that they had grown to $1.7 million in sales.

Doc Spartan for Social Good

Doc Spartan was started with the goal of bringing hope back to their small town of Portsmouth Ohio, which happens to have the highest addiction and overdose rates in the country.

According to Dale and Renee, one of the most difficult things for people in recovery is finding employment after treatment. They began to hire people who completed treatment – and watched the power employment change the lives of the people in their hometown.
