Company Background

What is Bitsbox?

Bitsbox is a monthly subscription service that invites kids ages 6-12 years old to learn to code. Once a month subscribers receive special app projects that give them step-by-step instructions for creating a fun game from code. Kids can learn code language and are able to customize their games as they write them.

Who Owns Bitsbox?

Scott Lininger and Aidan Chopra, the founders of Bitsbox, are former Google employees, with a background in technology and programming.

Aidan was a Product Evangelist, and Scott was a Senior Software Engineer at the time they both worked at Google. They were part of the Sketchup development team, which is a 3D design software.

The dads also had young kids in common and the desire to teach their children about coding. Soon after forming Bitsbox, both decided to quit their jobs at Google and work full-time on their business.

Founder’s Story

Aidan and Scott came up with the Bitsbox idea while creating some coding instructions for their kids. They realized other children might develop the same interest with lessons geared towards fun learning.

This is when the dad duo decided to combine their expertise in technology to create Bitsbox, a coding subscription service built just for kids. The best part is that parents and kids alike need no coding experience in order to learn and enjoy each kit.

The business continued to grow to the point where they decided it was time to quit their day jobs at Google and devote their energy to the venture on a full-time basis. One of the features they prioritized in the design was simplicity so that parents could help their kids without any prior coding experience. In the first two years of Bitsbox, the program pulled in one million in revenue.

As a dad, Aidan wanted to share his love of coding with his daughter, but now he and Scott share it with almost one million subscribers worldwide!

What Happened After Shark Tank Update

Did Bitsbox Get a Deal on Shark Tank?

On Shark Tank Season 8 Episode 17, Scott Lininger and Aidan Chopra entered the Tank seeking $250,000 for 3% and left without a deal.

Is Bitsbox Still in Business?

Business has been going well for Bitsbox. Bitsbox subscription services now come in three different plans: digital, basic, and deluxe. Each subscription type has unique features, and kids access the plan through a web browser on any computer.

They have subscribers all over the world who enjoy learning the art of coding every month, with Bitsbox being directly marketed to schools, individuals, and the homeschool demographic worldwide.
